1084

Think of 1084 as 1095's mild mannered little sister. As with the other 10XX it is a simple carbon steel with just enough manganese to get it past the pearlite nose in thin cross sections (like blades). 1084 has the advantage of being almost at the eutectoid point. Which means that it can use it's ferrite and cementite the most efficiently in the making of pearlite, good news for annealing. It also means that it has more than enough carbon to harden real good without as much sensitivity in forging and heat treating.
